Prayer: Lighting the Lamp of Understanding

Ah, Lord God: So often we come to You only for the hand of Your blessing or to ask You to protect us from pain or harm; we confess that seldom do we come to You just to be with You and begin to know You intimately. Your call is simply, Come. In that quiet place, may we begin to listen and hear You speak to us right where we are, and visibly see Your hand move through time, space and history. May we come to the place where we truly believe that the problems and difficulties of our lives can be explained by You more clearly and more effectually than by any other.

May we set our house in order, for You claim us as Your temple and tell us that we are not our own, we have been bought at a great price. May we divest ourselves of our weaknesses, put away all that is not pleasing to You, and allow You to light in our hearts the lamp of understanding and increase our spiritual wisdom. Amen. (1 Chronicles 4.10, 2 Esdras 14.13-15,25, 40, 1 Corinthians 3.16)
