Prayer Poem: Ever Mindful

The Lord is righteous
Seek the Lord all you humble
Seek His righteousness

In my quiet time
Lord, make me mindful of You
Still...in Your presence

The Word is near you
In your mouth and in your heart
Faithfully proclaim

Faith comes through hearing
Hearing through the Word of Christ
Let your voice ring out

Prayer: Relationship Not Reasoning

Ah, Lord God, be the One who goes before me
Be the One who grants victory
May I learn to not worry or fret
May I learn to return to You, to Your Word
May I see the ordering of events and circumstances are from You
May Your purpose prevail
May I rely on You and not on my ability to resolve things
Relationship not reasoning
May I listen attentively for Your voice
My Lord and my God

Prayer: The Evidence of Things Not Seen

As the Queen of Sheba stood amazed before the wisdom of King Solomon

And had all her questions answered to the point that there was no breath left in her,

So I come and stand before You, Lord God Almighty, and keep silence before You,

The Ground of all Being, the Glorious Source of all wisdom and knowledge.

May I serve You in the new way of the Spirit.

Let the earth be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the Lord as the waters cover the sea.

I await the appointed time of this vision; though it tarries, I wait expectantly.

Teach me to live expectantly for these things not yet seen.

I place my hope in You, my Glorious Source.

Second Prayer for Today: Prayer for Zimbabwe

Note: There are times when we are confronted with circumstances so dire, so overwhelming, that we do not know how to pray. Zimbabwe and its present and future circumstances are such for me. It is at those times that I ask the Holy Spirit to intercede on behalf of my heavy heart. Unfailingly, He gently leads me to God-breathed Scripture that eloquently articulates what I am struggling with at that moment. Is questioning a prayer? I believe it is. I also believe that God hears and answers in ways that we know not. Our job is to stay connected to the Spirit and continue to intercede, even in the midst of questions, dismay and overwhelming circumstances.

O Lord, how long shall I cry for help,

And You not hear?

Or cry to You, 'Violence!' and You will not save?

Why do You make me see iniquity,

And why do You idly look at wrong?

Destruction and violence are before me;

Strife and contention arise.

So the law is paralyzed,

And justice never goes forth.

for the wicked surround the righteous,

So justice goes forth perverted.

O Lord, see!
O Lord, hear!
O Lord, act!
May Your mighty right hand uphold our brothers and sisters of Zimbabwe.
Cover them with Your cloak of protection,
Even as a mother hen covers her chicks with her wing.
God save Zimbabwe!

Prayer: Collect All Your Strength

Ah, Lord God, bless me indeed

Fulfill Your promise toward me

Accomplish all that You purposed in and through my life

May I collect all my strength

And stand and see what You will do

I put my trust in You and in Your might

Pour out Your grace and mercy and steadfast love

So that I may not waver nor lose patience in Your promise

I am convinced that You are able to do that which You have promised

Prayer: Break the Yoke of Oppression

Thank You for choosing me
Thank You for calling me a treasured possession
You, O Lord, are good
Your steadfast love endures forever

You are a stronghold in the day of trouble
May Your people take refuge in You
Afflict those who afflict Your people
Break the yoke of oppression

I call upon You
I search for You
Forgive me for turning aside
For averting my eyes from the plight of others
May I not be a fruitless, useless servant

Prayer: Circumcise My Heart

Lord God, may I walk after You

And fear You

And keep Your commandments

And obey Your voice

And serve You willingly

And hold fast to You

I look to You, the God of my salvation

Who is like You?

Pardoning iniquity

Passing over transgressions

Not retaining Your anger forever

You delight in steadfast love

And tread my iniquities underfoot

You cast all my sins into the depths of the sea

Circumcise my heart, O God

By Your great Spirit

The One who goes before you

Weeping and breaking My heart
Turn, my child, and live

Prayer: Testify Freely

O Lord God, You have only begun to show Your servant Your greatness and Your mighty hand

You, O Lord, have given rest to Your people

I was in distress and cried out to You

Your billows passed over me and my life was fainting away

But in Your mercy, You heard my prayer

When I cried out to You, You responded

I do not count my life as of any value

Nor do I hold it as precious to myself

I choose instead to lose myself in the ministry I receive from You

May I testify freely to the grace of God

May I not shrink back from declaring the whole counsel of God

Awaken me by Your Spirit
Open my eyes and my heart to the work that You would have me do
May all the work I do have Your imprint upon it
